Intro to Building science and INsulation

  • Hammerstone: Carpentry for Women 3285 Jacksonville Rd Trumansburg, NY (map)

Who is this class for:
This course is open to women-identifying and non-binary folx as well as trans men of any skill level without a prerequisite.

Description:
Those of us who live in colder climates are often used to the discomfort of a poorly weatherized house.  But did you know that it’s not just insulation that keeps you warm?  Sealing your house from air infiltration is just as important, which you probably know if you have drafty windows.  Building science is a rapidly developing field that addresses the health, comfort, and longevity of our houses.  In this course we give an overview of issues to consider, and dive into hands-on execution of insulation and air-sealing.  Our lectures are filled with real life examples of building science failures, and we emphasize the principals that inform good execution.

HOW TO CHOOSE A PAYMENT >

  • I consider myself middle income/wealth. Paying this price may be a sacrifice, but I can find the resources to do so. This is the full cost of running a course including paying our teachers a fair wage, covering insurance, maintaining tools and facilities, managing administration, and supporting our family.

  • I consider myself low-income/low-wealth. I cannot access this course without financial help.

  • I consider myself low-middle income/wealth. Paying full price for this course presents somewhat of a financial hardship.

  • I consider myself upper-middle income/wealth. I would like to make a donation on top of the full price of the course in order to help subsidize access for those who cannot pay the full tuition.

  • I have the resources to make a substantial donation to ensure that these classes remain accessible to people of all income/wealth levels.
