Marketing and Development Manager
About Hammerstone:
Hammerstone School is an Ithaca NY based institution teaching carpentry skills to women and gender minorities. Created in 2013, Hammerstone was run as an LLC for the first 11 years. In 2024, Hammerstone became a 501c(3) nonprofit organization with the goal of increasing accessibility of our classes.
Classes are short (1-5-day) workshops that focus on specific carpentry and woodworking skills ranging from basic tool use, to fine woodworking, to tiny house construction. We run our classes year-round in two locations - our open air workshop outside of Trumansburg, and our heated shop in downtown Ithaca. Our offices are in the downtown shop.
Our current team of 4 manages the administrative operations, facilities maintenance and improvements, teaching, and ongoing construction work to support our classes. Classes that are not taught by our core staff are taught by a select group of contract instructors. We are currently expanding our team to make the most of our nonprofit status and to reach as many prospective students as possible.
About the position:
The Marketing and Development Manager will plan and oversee the creation and implementation of Hammerstone’s marketing and development goals. The manager will work closely with the Executive director to craft a strategic marketing plan and with our communications specialist to implement marketing tactics. The manager is responsible for creating a development strategic plan in conjunction with leadership, and for implementing development tactics. The manager will be responsible for communication with prospective students, current students, tiny house project sponsors, and other inquiries directed towards Hammerstone School.
Key responsibilities:
Work with leadership to develop a development strategy and tactical plan
Implement development plan
Track development results and report to leadership
Work with team on incorporating fundraising into all aspects of Hammerstone’s engagement
Work with leadership to develop a marketing strategy and tactical plan
Work with communications specialist in the implementation of marketing plan
Implement additional marketing tactics as needed
Track marketing results and report to leadership
Help direct and troubleshoot the end user web experience
Answer emailed inquiries and manage student communications
Manage tiny house sponsorship solicitation
Represent Hammerstone professionally
All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) salaried position that is based in Ithaca, NY. It is on-site with some flexibility to work from home. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with occasional weekend commitments required. Flexibility will be provided as needed, especially to make up for weekend work. The final schedule will be established in collaboration with the supervisor.
